1 How do I arrive to the kite Camp?
You have several options to arrive to the Surfcamp in Algarve. You may take an airplane to the Faro international airport, or there are also many options by train or bus. We provide free transfer from Lagos Bus or train station.
2 What Clothes do I need for my Trip to Algarve?
Between April and September you will only need T-shirts and shorts during the day and night, but sometimes you might need trousers or a light parka. In the winter you might need warmer clothing, such as
windbreakers, a sweater or trousers during the night. You might also need a raincoat in case of rain.
3 Where is located the camp?
The camp-house is located in Vale da Telha, Aljezur. The surf-spots Monte Clerigo and Arrifana with the legendary reefbreak kangaroos is only 5 minutes away.
4 Do any of the Calima kiteSurf packages in Portugal include airplane tickets?
None of the Calima Packages include airplane tickets.
5 What type of boards should I bring?
If you are taking the Level 1 or 2 beginner packages you will not need to bring equipment because the Surfcamp de Calima provides it. In any case a 6'0'’ should be enough. Although a bigger board (6'8" or 7'2") could be useful during big winter days.
6 Are there any Surf Shops close to the camp?
In Sagres and Lagos you can find a lot of surf shops and places to buy souvenirs.
7 How is the nightlife in Algarve?
The kite camp is located very close to Lagos and Sagres. The nightlife in those towns can be quite exciting, especially during summer time... but don’t forget that in the morning you’ll be kiteksurfing again!!
8 When is the best season for beginners and experienced surfers?
The summer is great for beginners and intermediate surfers because the waves are not as powerful. The winter is the best time for seasoned surfers since the ocean delivers strong winter swells which result in wave faces regularly higher than 6-8 foot. Beginners find at that time good waves at the south coast.
9 What am I going to learn in a beginner course?
In a beginner level course, you are going to learn the basics of surfing: get familiar with the ocean, the safety measures to keep when in the water, a theory introduction to the sea cycles (tides, swells, seasons etc.), how to paddle in and pass the whitewater, how to paddle into the waves, how to stand up on your board and SURF!
10 What am I going to learn in an intermediate course?
In an intermediate course, we’re going to correct all the bad habits you could have acquired during your free surfing sessions, to perfection your style, to read the wave, the sets, the wall and the lip, to do the right movement in the right section of the wave, all the tricks useful to the good execution of the basic maneuvers as bottom turns, cut backs, and why not, some radical snap!
