Costa Rica (literally "Rich Coast"), officially the Republic of Costa Rica , a country in Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the south-southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. Costa Rica was the first country in the world to constitutionally abolish its army.

Jacó is a coastal town in Costa Rica's Punta Arenas province, located on the Pacific Ocean. The town is known as a surfers' haven due to consistently high surf and proximity to other popular surfing beaches, including Playa Hermosa and Playa Herradura.
Approximately a 1.5 hour drive from San José, Jacó is a popular among Ticos and foreign tourists alike due to its consistent surf.
It is currently one of the fastest growing development areas in Latin America. Many developers are building as many buildings as possible, providing jobs and reviving the local economy, but also causing some problems with the electricity and water systems because they have not kept pace with the current developments. Some major developers are DayStar Properties, with 5 large developments along the beach, the Ramada and the Acqua, as well as, Wellington Asset Management with properties south of Jaco in Playa Hermosa and north of Jaco in Tarcoles.
